Dixon Police Department Public Service Announcement: Traffic Safety during the May Fair

As we approach the much-anticipated Dixon May Fair, the Dixon Police Department would like to remind our community about the importance of safety, particularly when it comes to driving and pedestrian traffic during this festive time. The fair brings excitement and joy, but also increased risks that we all need to be mindful of.

Pedestrian Safety

  • The fair brings increased pedestrian traffic, especially around the fairgrounds and surrounding areas. Please be alert for pedestrians crossing streets and moving in and out of traffic.
  • Use designated crosswalks when crossing the street. Motorists, please be aware of crosswalks and give pedestrians the right of way.
  • Stay vigilant when driving near the fairgrounds, as children and families may be walking or playing nearby.

Safe Driving

  • Expect increased traffic congestion around the fairgrounds. Allow extra time for travel and be patient with other drivers.
  • Follow all posted traffic signs and signals, and be mindful of temporary road closures or detours that may be in place.
  • Keep your focus on the road, avoid distractions, and always wear your seatbelt.

Drinking and Driving

  • If you plan to drink alcohol at the fair, please arrange for a sober driver or use a rideshare service. Never drive under the influence.
  • The Dixon Police Department will be conducting increased patrols to ensure our roads are safe. Drunk driving endangers everyone and will not be tolerated.
  • Remember, driving under the influence is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. Make responsible choices to protect yourself and others.

Let's make this year's Dixon May Fair a safe and enjoyable event for everyone. By following these safety tips and being mindful of each other, we can ensure a fun and memorable experience for our community.

For any non-emergency concerns during the fair, please contact the Dixon Police Department at (707) 678-7070. In case of an emergency, always dial 911.

Stay safe, and have a wonderful time at the Dixon May Fair!
